  • The Appeal of Tea Nurtured by Sera’s Harsh Winters — A Supreme Cup Woven by Heaven, Earth, and People

Even within Hiroshima Prefecture, climate conditions vary greatly from region to region. While the areas along the Seto Inland Sea enjoy a mild climate, our tea is grown in Sera at elevations of 300 to 450 metres, where winter nights can fall as low as −9°C and the tea plants must endure harsh cold and snow.

In this cold environment, the tea plants grow slowly, allowing umami compounds and natural protective substances to accumulate gradually in the leaves. Winter snow also insulates the roots, while the melting snow slowly supplies the soil with water and minerals, steadily preparing the plants for spring growth. Having survived the severe winter, the tea plants develop strength and resilience that are reflected in the tea’s deep flavour, rich aroma, and well-balanced umami.

Of course, the environment alone is not enough to produce exceptional tea. Every stage, from harvesting to processing, is equally important. At the heart of tea-making is the harmony of heaven, earth, and people.
