The wait is over! Our 2026 new tea is ready.

In 2026, we found ourselves occupied with an unexpectedly prolonged period of planting tea seedlings, making the journey to completing this year’s new tea feel especially long.

Even so, the moment when a new tea is finally finished and we taste something truly delicious is always a joyful one.

We are deeply grateful that this year’s teas will once again make their way to you and be enjoyed.

We hope you will savour them.

Here is an introduction to our 2026 new teas.

Hiroshima Native Hama Tea

In March 2026, we pruned the tea leaves and branches that had grown over the winter and laid them out to dry on the shore in Setoda, Onomichi.

From the latter half of March, there were many rainy days, so we had to carefully wait for clear weather and struggled to dry the tea naturally in the sun while exposing it to the sea breeze. Even so, this year’s Hama Tea has once again developed its distinctive flavour, combining the aroma of the salty breeze with the nutrients stored in the leaves over winter.

Available as loose-leaf tea or tea bags.

Hiroshima Native Seicha

This tea was harvested and produced in May 2026.

Our ever-popular Seicha is a tea that feels as though a pure, refreshing breeze passes through you the moment you take a sip.

It is made using withering, a process more commonly associated with oolong and black tea rather than Japanese green tea. After withering, the leaves are steamed, the most essential stage in Japanese tea production. We then produce the tea without using the primary rolling and final rolling machines normally considered necessary in standard processing.

We made a slight adjustment to the process this year, resulting in a brighter, more vivid green colour when the tea is brewed.

This year, it is available both as loose-leaf tea and in tea bags.

Hiroshima Native Kamairicha

Like Seicha, this tea was made from fresh shoots harvested in May.

The name kamairicha may lead some people to imagine a roasted tea similar to hojicha, but it is actually a type of green tea.

While Seicha and sencha are steamed to stop oxidation, kamairicha is heated in a pan before being rolled, which stops oxidation in a different way.

When brewed, the liquor appears green or slightly yellow. Its flavour sits somewhere between lightly oxidised Taiwanese oolong tea and Japanese sencha.

This year, it is available both as loose-leaf tea and in tea bags.

Hiroshima Native Pan-Roasted Hojicha

This hojicha is made by roasting kamairicha at a high temperature.

It is characterised by the subtle fragrance of kamairicha combined with a warm, toasty aroma, and it remains a favourite year after year.

We especially recommend it when you want to slow down and relax.

Hiroshima Yabukita Japanese Black Tea

This tea is lightly oxidised, creating a fresh black tea with a vivid green character.

It is delicious on its own and pairs especially well with both Western-style and traditional Japanese sweets.

When Japanese black tea is stored unopened over time, its flavour becomes more rounded and its aroma gradually changes. It can be fascinating to compare the fresh character of the new tea with the flavour it develops after ageing.

This year, it is available both as loose-leaf tea and in tea bags.

Hiroshima Native Koji Japanese Black Tea

This wonderfully mysterious black tea, wrapped in a sweet aroma, began with a simple thought from Genki Takahashi: “I want to try something a little different.”

It is made using tane-koji, the starter culture traditionally used in sake brewing.

Black tea normally develops its flavour through oxidation, and we had long questioned the common use of the word “fermentation” to describe this process. This inspired us to create a genuinely fermented tea, leading us to begin developing black tea using koji.

We hope you will give it a try.

Sales are expected to begin in the latter half of July.

Hiroshima Native Japanese Black Tea

This tea is lightly oxidised, preserving the earthy aroma unique to native tea varieties and the fresh green character of the new shoots.

It will be aged for a short time before being made available.

Please wait just a little longer.
